Lost Dog Shivers On A Small Blanket In Below-Freezing Weather Until Rescuer Arrives

Clydis had it all: a warm home, a family who loved him, and delicious treats every time he proved himself to be a good boi! But, in an instant, he lost it all.

Instead of snuggling up next to his owners, this Pittie mix replaced his home with a Kansas park during the harshest time of the year – winter. After accidentally getting lost, Clydis struggled to cope with the below-freezing temperatures. And, his short coat sure wasn’t beneficial.

Fortunately, a kind passerby noticed his plight and immediately decided to act.

He Didn’t Trust Anyone

Joni, a Kansas resident, didn’t think twice about helping Clydis. As soon as he spotted the dog roaming a Wichita park, he contacted Wichita Animal Action League.

Tess Goodman was the first to answer his call! She and her colleague immediately rushed to the spot only to find Clydis shivering on a small blue blanket someone left for him in the park

He tried really hard to stay warm, but at these temperatures, that was almost impossible.

Tess tried to approach him a few times. Unfortunately, the dog was just too skittish to let anyone near. As soon as he heard the human voice, he instantly ran away deeper into the woods.

That’s when Tess decided to use a different method. She installed a large dog house nearby with dog food and water inside. Soon enough, Clydis, who was starving without proper care, entered the house and ate it.

This process went back and forth for a couple of days until Tess finally got to make contact with Clydis. She decided to sit next to his blanket for as long as it took, trying not to scare him away. And, it worked!

With some treats in her hand and a gentle approach, Clydis finally gave in and established contact with his rescuer. The two spent a few minutes just being next to each other until Tess made sure that Clydis was relaxed enough to be leashed.

And then, it happened! After some growling and a few attempts to escape, Goodman managed to secure Clydis and load him into the car.

She was so relieved knowing that he probably would not have made it through one more night in the freezing weather.

Finally, He’s Safe

The minute Clyids entered the car, he warmed up to Tess and her colleague. He gently leaned his head against their bodies and showered them with kisses as if he knew that from now on, things would be fine.

But, they were more than fine! Aside from dehydration, Clydis’ condition was nearly perfect. Plus, he had a microchip that helped the rescuers locate his family easily.

“Clydis was microchipped, which not only made it easy to find his owners, but prevented him from having to go to the shelter,” WAAL wrote on Facebook.

As it turned out, Clydis accidentally escaped his home while his family was moving out of the apartment into a new place. Unfortunately, his little “adventure” took him miles from home, with no food, water, or shelter to hide.

Now, he’s finally safe and back home.

“Clydis was returned to a grateful family who had been moving out of an apartment to a new house when Clydis escaped,” the Kansas rescue added.

His owners could not be more grateful for having him back. They welcomed him with arms wide open, hoping that this would be his last escape.

Good luck, Clydis. And, welcome home!
