Sunny must have lost all hope of being rescued as she watched countless cars passing her by.
Stranded on a highway median, the doggo felt lonely and helpless. She desperately longed to find safety but she didn’t know where to go.
While she was grateful for the food that people threw to her from their cars, Sunny wished that somebody would stop and help her. She needed someone to show her that she was worthy of love and kindness.
Just when Sunny thought everything was lost, her hero showed up and jumped to her aid.
Rescuing Sunny
Karla, a big-hearted volunteer at Trapping, Rescue, and Pet Recovery Service (TRAPRS), an animal rescue organization, was driving on a highway in Austin, Texas when she spotted Sunny standing on the highway median.
The dog stared at the drivers with a heartbreaking expression on her face as if she was begging them to stop.
Terrified for the dog’s safety, Karla immediately screeched to a stop and rushed to save Sunny.
“[It’s] our team’s worst nightmare: seeing this randomly while driving. With traffic picking up, we knew this dog had no good outcome if left to her own fate,” TRAPRS wrote on Instagram.
Although she didn’t have the necessary gear or treats, the volunteer decided to take action and lure the dog to safety.
She dodged the traffic and approached the helpless dog. She started talking to her, trying to win her trust.
Sunny was relieved when she saw her and she accepted her help.
Once Karla took the doggo in her arms, she breathed a sigh of relief. Sunny was safe!
Shortly afterward, Alicia, a fellow volunteer at the Austin rescue, came to the scene and helped Karla cross the highway.
Sunny Hopes To Find A Place To Call Home
When the volunteers put her in the car, Sunny felt secure. She sensed that things were beginning to look up.
The rescuers fed her and the pup gulped her food as fast as she could. She was happy to finally enjoy a nice meal.
Shortly after her rescue, Sunny moved in with an emergency foster where she started decompressing.
Since her temporary foster family cannot keep her long, the pup is now looking for a loving home.
She needs a patient family who will give her a lot of love and help her come out of her shell.
Sunny’s rescue friends think that the doggo was deprived of love for a long time and that she would thrive in a calm environment.
“She’s been through a lot and needs a patient family while she rests and comes out of her shell. She enjoys going outside for walks, taking naps and is quiet in her crate. She may do well with another calm dog. She could fare well in a home or apartment,” Caitlin Chapman, the director of TRAPRS, told The Dodo.
Sunny’s human friends believe that she will soon find the perfect family. In the meantime, they dote on her and give her all their love.
I’m sure that the lovely pup will soon forget her past and ride into the sunset with her forever humans. She deserves to live a life filled with love and happiness.
