Mom kicked out of home with baby by mother-in-law: She sees her rummaging through the trash years later

A controlling woman throws her daughter-in-law and her newborn son out of the house, only to find them in deplorable conditions years later.

Aby and Jonathan had been married for three years when they welcomed their son, Tomás. They lived with Jonathan’s mother, Mrs. Norma, who wasn’t the worst person, but she wasn’t the best either.

Mrs. Norma’s problem was that she wanted to have complete control over everything, especially Jonathan’s life. Luckily for her, she always succeeded, as Jonathan was a “mama’s boy” who never contradicted her.

However, things began to change when Aby entered Jonathan’s life. He began to pay more attention to his partner, which made Mrs. Norma think that Aby was pushing him away.

Finally, Aby felt that Mrs. Norma despised her, so she advised Jonathan to move out. But he politely refused, saying, “Oh, darling, come on! You know Mommy’s like! She may look tough on the outside, but she’s gentle on the inside. She adores you as much as she does me.”

But Aby knew that wasn’t the case, and her worst fears came true one day…

“GET OUT OF MY HOUSE WITH THAT BABY!” Mrs. Norma yelled at Aby when she and Jonathan returned from the hospital after Tomás’s birth. She didn’t even go to the hospital for Aby’s delivery because she despised her. And once her daughter-in-law was home, she came up with a brilliant plan to get rid of her.

“Ms. Norma, what’s wrong?” Aby stared at her, bewildered. She didn’t understand why the woman would say something like that to her.

“What’s wrong with me?” she retorted. “That child isn’t my son! He doesn’t look anything like my Jonathan!” she lied, screaming at the top of her lungs.

“Mrs. Norma!” Aby demanded, her eyes watering. “How can you say such a thing? He’s your grandson… Jonathan,” she said, turning to her husband. “Why aren’t you saying anything? You know he’s…”

Before Aby could finish, Mrs. Norma cut her off. “Stop hexing my son with those crocodile tears of yours! You’ve already ruined his life. Pack your things and get out!” she repeated, grabbing Jonathan’s arm and pulling him away.

“Jonathan…” Aby looked at him in disbelief at what was happening, waiting for him to react. But he didn’t say a word. Instead, he stood next to his mother and hung his head in shame.

Aby couldn’t believe that Jonathan wouldn’t confront his mother, and that he was willing to lose his son.

She realized what was happening to her was probably the worst thing she’d ever faced, but then she thought it would probably be best to get away from that toxicity. So she packed her belongings and left Ms. Norma’s house to live with her parents.

Several years passed, and Aby raised Tomás alone. Fortunately, she also recovered from the pain of the end of her toxic relationship with Jonathan and filed for divorce.

A few years later, she found love again when she met a man named Edward at Tomás’s school. He was a widower with a daughter, Carolina. He and Aby fell in love and married.

Aby felt like her life was complete after finding Edward. She had a wonderful family, a great job, two beautiful children, and a devoted husband. She never thought about her horrible marriage to Jonathan again until one day something unexpected happened.

After dropping Carolina and Tomás off at school, Aby was heading to work when she saw an elderly woman searching for food in a dumpster.

“My God!” he sighed as he stopped and looked at the woman. “What happened to her that she had to eat out of a container?”

Aby searched her purse for money and got out of the car to offer it to the woman. But as she approached, something she saw in the woman made her stop.

She recognized the homeless woman’s coat and immediately stopped in the middle of the street until a car honked, interrupting her thoughts. When the woman turned to look at her, Aby’s suspicions were confirmed.

“Good heavens! Mrs. Norma?” she whispered in disbelief, seeing her ex-mother-in-law in such a terrible state. “Mrs. Norma, what happened to you? What are you doing here?” she asked worriedly as she ran toward her.

With tears in her eyes, the woman stared at her. “Aby? Forgive me for what I did, darling,” she begged, bursting into tears. “Please forgive me! I’m starving. I haven’t eaten in days.” She fell at Aby’s feet and couldn’t stop crying.

Aby had never liked Mrs. Norma, but she wasn’t so heartless as to leave her on the street in that state. So she took a day off work and took her to a restaurant.

As Mrs. Norma finished eating, Aby asked her gently, “Mrs. Norma, how did you end up like this? Where is Jonathan?”

“All I can say is I paid for my sins, darling,” she sighed, her eyes tearing up. “I lost everything I had. My Jonathan is no longer with me. He left me alone, and I felt so miserable after that.”

Mrs. Norma couldn’t stop crying as she revealed that Jonathan was walking home from work one day when he was attacked and robbed by vandals. He tried to defend himself, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries and died before reaching the hospital.

After the terrible incident, Mrs. Norma nearly lost her mind. Every night, she sat for hours on her son’s bed, clutching his things and crying. She didn’t want to do anything or interact with anyone. Eventually, she gave up on her life and began wandering the streets.

“I still have the house, but it’s so empty without him. When I go back to it, I feel sorry for it. I don’t want to be there. I want to run away from all the bad memories… All the bad things I did to you, oh, I regret them so much. Will you please forgive me? I beg you,” she pleaded, trembling.

Seeing Mrs. Norma’s terrible situation, Aby knew that the woman had already paid for her misdeeds, so she decided to put the past behind her and forgive her.

“It’s okay, Mrs. Norma,” he said. “I have nothing against you or Jonathan. In fact, I’m glad I moved on with my life because now I have a wonderful husband and two children.”

Mrs. Norma was surprised. “Have you remarried?”

“Yes! And I’m very happy with my life now,” Aby replied, smiling.

After meeting her ex-mother-in-law, Aby began to visit her house often and help her with housework from time to time.

She also told Edward everything that had happened, and he was very understanding and supportive. Putting the horrible past behind them, they now often invite Mrs. Norma to their home and spend time with her so she doesn’t feel alone.

What can we learn from this story?

  • One day everyone pays for their misdeeds: Mrs. Norma ruined Aby and Jonathan’s relationship and paid the price for it when she was left alone.
  • Sometimes we must overcome difficult trials to obtain a reward: Although Aby’s divorce from Jonathan was a devastating experience, it was ultimately worth it and resulted in a much happier life for her and Tomás.
