The Doctor Extracted 23 Stuck Contact Lenses From The Eye

According to a California physician, an elderly patient who first sought assistance for hazy vision turned out to have 23 disposable contact lenses trapped in her eye.

A local TV news program was informed by Dr. Katerina Kurteeva, an ophthalmologist in Newport Beach, that “she herself does not understand how it took place.” “She’s still not understanding it all.”

On Kurteeva’s Instagram account, pictures and a video showing the removal of many contact lenses from a woman’s eye went viral, generating a flurry of dramatic media attention.

According to Kurteeva on the Today Show, the woman, who is in her 70s, had been avoiding routine trips to her eye doctor because she was afraid she would get Covid-19. She finally made it to Kurteeva’s office in early September, but she was complaining of a strange feeling in her right eye.

helper record the extraction procedure on her phone. The doctor told Insider.com, “I thought this might be a moment worthy of the Guinness Book of World Records.”

The American Academy of Ophthalmology points out that discovering 23 disposable contact lenses in one eye does not constitute a record. In 2017, a 67-year-old British woman’s eye contained a total of 27 contact lenses, which were found by medical professionals during cataract surgery preparations.

Kurteeva told the press that her patient preferred to stay anonymous. She did, however, make one follow-up appointment and had continued wearing her contact lenses despite the doctor’s recommendation to take a break.
